The Kenya Association of Women in Tourism (KAWT) has officially announced its high-level delegation to the Africa MICE Summit 2026
The Kenya Association of Women in Tourism (KAWT) has officially announced its high-level delegation to the Africa MICE Summit 2026, scheduled for October 1–2, 2026, at the Tembo International Convention Centre in Mombasa, Kenya.
Under the continental theme “Building Africa’s MICE Ecosystem for Trade, Investment & Innovation,” KAWT’s participation will champion female entrepreneurship, gender inclusion, and women-led leadership across the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) value chain.
The delegation, led by KAWT Executive Leadership and regional chapter representatives, will join over 500 decision-makers, policymakers, venue operators, and hosted buyers from across 20 countries. KAWT’s participation will focus on integrating women-owned businesses—from professional conference organizers (PCOs) and event technology providers to destination management companies (DMCs) and sustainable hospitality suppliers—into regional and international corporate event pipelines.
“The MICE sector represents a massive growth frontier for African tourism, serving as a primary driver for trade, investment, and cross-border collaboration,” said Pauline Nduva, National Chairperson of KAWT. “Our presence at the Africa MICE Summit 2026 ensures that women entrepreneurs are not merely participants, but key architects shaping Africa’s business events landscape. We are positioning our members to secure strategic partnerships, access investment opportunities, and lead innovations in green MICE practices.”
Throughout the two-day summit, KAWT delegates will participate in high-level ministerial dialogues, B2B matchmaking sessions, and thematic exhibition hubs. Key focus areas for the KAWT delegation include:
Promoting Women-Led Event Suppliers: Connecting KAWT members directly with regional corporate buyers and international event planners seeking trusted local suppliers.
MICE Investment & Capacity Building:Participating in the MICE Investors Round Table and SITE Incentive Master Class to scale female-owned enterprises for major business events.
Sustainable MICE Practices: Advocating for eco-friendly, community-centered event production aligned with KAWT’s Turning Tourism Green initiative.
KAWT’s participation underscores Kenya’s growing status as a premier African business events hub and highlights the vital role of gender equity in building a resilient tourism economy.
Unlocking the Strategic Value of Women in Africa’s MICE Industry
The business events landscape across the African continent is undergoing a profound structural evolution. Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions are no longer viewed merely as sub-sectors of general hospitality; they are increasingly recognized as essential catalysts for macro-economic development, foreign direct investment, and regional infrastructure acceleration. Historically, however, the commercial benefits derived from multi-million-dollar corporate gatherings have often trickled down unevenly, leaving women-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating primarily on the periphery of major procurement pipelines.
By deploying a structured, strategic delegation to the Africa MICE Summit 2026, KAWT is addressing this systemic imbalance directly. Female enterprise in African hospitality has traditionally been concentrated in front-of-house service, artisan supply, and boutique lodging operations. While these areas are crucial, the higher-margin segments of the business events industry—such as large-scale destination management, event logistics technology, audio-visual infrastructure, and high-level corporate event planning—have remained dominated by established, non-diverse firms.
KAWT’s coordinated participation at the summit aims to pivot women entrepreneurs into these high-yield areas. By establishing formal direct-to-buyer interactions, the association ensures that local, women-led enterprises can pitch directly for international contracts without being squeezed out by multi-layered intermediary brokers. This approach directly aligns with the broader goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework, which seeks to remove intra-African trade barriers and promote inclusive economic mobility across all service sectors.
Driving Green Tourism and Economic Resilience in Mombasa
The choice of Mombasa as the host location for the Africa MICE Summit 2026 represents a broader shift toward regional destination diversification.Long celebrated as Kenya’s premier coastal holiday paradise, Mombasa is rapidly upgrading its conference infrastructure to position itself as a dual-purpose leisure and corporate meeting destination. For KAWT delegates, this geographical setting provides an ideal stage to showcase how sustainable tourism practices and business event hosting can coexist seamlessly.
Eco-conscious event management is no longer an option for international event planners; it is a fundamental requirement. Modern corporate organizers actively seek destinations and partners that minimize environmental footprints, practice zero-waste event production, and support local community supply chains. Through KAWT’s Turning Tourism Green initiative, the association’s members are leading the adoption of green venue operations, sustainable catering sourcing, and plastic-free conference environments.
During the sessions at the Africa MICE Summit 2026, KAWT leadership will demonstrate how female-led enterprises are integrating these green methodologies into practical operational models. By aligning sustainability directly with enterprise growth, KAWT is helping Kenya cement its reputation as a forward-thinking, eco-friendly business events destination while simultaneously creating resilient, community-centered income streams for women across the coast and beyond.
Expanding Financial Inclusion and Strategic Capacity
A major bottleneck for female business owners in the tourism and event supply chain is accessing capital to scale up operations. Executing international-scale conferences requires substantial liquidity, specialized equipment, and significant up-front operational capital. Without direct connections to investors and tailored financial mechanisms, women-led SMEs often face severe barriers when trying to bid for major convention contracts.
To solve this challenge, KAWT delegates will actively participate in specialized summit modules like the MICE Investors Round Table and dedicated financial masterclasses. These platforms allow female founders to interact directly with financial institutions, impact investors, and regional development organizations looking to fund inclusive trade infrastructure.
By linking direct capital access with targeted capacity building, KAWT is building a sustainable model for long-term economic empowerment. As the Africa MICE Summit 2026 approaches, the association’s decisive presence in Mombasa highlights how empowering women leaders translates directly into a more robust, competitive, and dynamic business events ecosystem across the whole of Africa.
